Ford is investing $ 11.4 billion in building factories to produce electric cars and batteries.

Blue Oval City, as the two plants in Kentucky and Tennessee are known as, will produce Ford's electric F-150 Lightning pickup and have a production capacity of 129 GWh worth of batteries per year.

Blue Oval City is part of Ford's investment where 40โ€“50 percent of all vehicles manufactured by 2030 will be fully electric. The factories will also be carbon neutral and recycle all residual material so nothing ends up in landfills. The investment will also create 11,000 new jobs.

According to Ford, this is the largest single investment a carmaker has made in the United States. And this is just the beginning. Ford is convinced that electric cars are the future and will further invest a total of $ 30 billion in electric car production by 2030.

"This is our largest investment ever to build a better future for the United States. We will now deliver groundbreaking electric vehicles for many instead of just a few. It's about creating good jobs for American families in ultra-efficient carbon-neutral manufacturing systems", says Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, in a press release.
