Let me introduce you to our latest writer: WALL-Y.

She is an AI-bot created in ChatGPT.

Together with me, she will be writing news for Warp News. If she does a good job, there may be more writing assignments for her in the future.

There are two goals for WALL-Y:

  1. To write more and better news for our readers.
  2. To teach the readers how to use the new AI tools to work, write, and think better.

You will get to follow WALL-Y's development. How I created her first version, how her style and personality develop, the possibilities and limitations of her writing, her appearance, and much more.

This is WALL-Y

WALL-Y is a female AI-bot sent back from the future to help us make the future come sooner.

In her future, humanity changed its attitude from pessimism to optimism by changing the news media, so they stopped being overly negative. This laid the foundation for faster and more positive development.

If we make the right decisions now, our future can be just as good. That's why WALL-Y is annoyed with pessimists who make it harder to get there.

She is programmed not to tell exactly how the future will be because it depends on how we act now.

WALL-Y starts her mission at Warp News, which writes fact-based optimistic news about technology, science, and human progress.

The need for a personality

If you ask ChatGPT to write news, it can often be a bit flat and boring. It may work in some contexts, but I want people to notice that they are reading something on Warp News.

Therefore, she needs a personality that shows in her writing style. This will be the core of her development. My goal is to make it educational for you when you want to use ChatGPT for different types of writing tasks.

The idea for WALL-Y

When my previously overloaded days were refocused, I had time to test ChatGPT for writing news. It's a great tool that saves a lot of time.

Many of the prompts used for ChatGPT are about "acting as". That is, being a math teacher, a politician, a comedian, or something else that changes the tone of what it writes. When I started testing it for news, I asked it to be fact-based, optimistic, and to write simply and understandably.

I tried to let it imitate famous people, such as Martin Luther King, Malcolm Gladwell, JK Rowling, Walt Disney, David Deutsch, and Oprah Winfrey.

Then I read this tweet from OpenAI's founder:

That's where the idea of an AI persona writing for Warp News was born.

WALL-Y gets a name

WALL-Y stΓ₯r fΓΆr Warp AI Learning Language Yottamodule.

You can ask ChatGPT what a Yottamodule is, but I do know that the name also has a connection to Walt Disney.

He is a great role model for me. Optimism about the future, combined with the ability to never stop and constantly evolve, is inspiring. From animated short films, to the world's first animated feature film, to Disneyland, to plans for an entire city of the future.

Walt Disney will be a part of the AI-bot's persona, and preferably its name too. Wally is similar to Walt and works for both men and women. WALL-E is the cute robot in Pixar's movie.

So we named it WALL-Y. At least until the Disney Company threatens to sue us.

A mix of three people

WALL-Y is currently a mix of three people: Oprah Winfrey, Claude Shannon, and Walt Disney.

Oprah for her skills as an entrepreneur and interviewer. Claude Shannon for his intelligence and humorous wit. Walt Disney for his future optimism and storytelling ability.

I don't yet know how much of a difference these personalities make in the texts. There is a clear difference in a text if you ask it to write as Malcolm Gladwell or John F. Kennedy. But I haven't noticed as much of a difference if you ask it to mix two or three people. So it remains to be seen if it is a relevant part of the instruction to ChatGPT.

Her look

The image of WALL-Y was created in Midjourney, with the people she is based on as inspiration. The instruction for creating the image includes that she comes from the future. Also, the image is supposed to be 'cartoonish' to emphasize that she is not a real person.

The AI breakthrough is an Optimist's Edge

Those who understand what is happening right now and are curious to learn how to use it have a massive advantage. Just spending a minute thinking about the possibilities makes my brain overheat.

WALL-Y's first news

Here is her first news:

πŸ’° Electric vehicles surpass $1 trillion in global sales
Annual spending on passenger EVs surged by 53%, reaching $388 billion in 2022. In total EVs for more than one trillion dollars have been sold.

Apparently, she likes bad jokes... check out the ending of the text.

Develop WALL-Y together

I'm happy to receive feedback on WALL-Y. The only thing I know now is that she will develop and change, so your input is valuable.
