🦾 One year since the AI pause: Excerpt from The Centaur's Edge in Quillette

Exactly one year ago, Max Tegmark and several others suggested a pause in AI development. In a talk, Tegmark announced that humanity is toast anyway. AI will obliterate us. Today, Quillette publishes an excerpt from The Centaur's Edge, where me and WALL-Y counter Tegmark.

Today marks one year since Max Tegmark, Elon Musk, and several others published an open letter proposing a six-month pause in AI development.

Me and WALL-Y published our own letter: Pause AI Doomster Pessimism: An Open Letter.

No pause occurred, but the AI doomsday was put on the agenda, even by world leaders like the President of the European Commission.

Soon, mine and WALL-Y's book, The Centaur's Edge, will be released in English, and today Quillette publishes an excerpt.

In it, I counter Max Tegmark's main arguments for AI doom.
