🚽 Pay to use an outhouse?!
At first, I was provoked and a bit angry when I read that a cottage was being marketed with no electricity and running water. According to the advertisement, it was great to freeze your butt off in an outdoor toilet.
But then I calmed down and started thinking about it. It is fascinating that we pay to get rid of conveniences, which are also very good for our health.
But is it entirely bad? Maybe not.

🦾 AI commission advances final report
The Swedish AI commission's (of which I'm a member) task was to deliver a report in July next year, but now we have decided to advance it to mid-autumn this year.
Unfortunately, there is no positive reason for this. Sweden has stumbled at the starting line, and we need to speed up significantly. Some actors seem to be waiting for the AI commission, and the government is struggling to act before we submit our report.
(Or as my friend Jonathan asked: Are you finishing much faster now after the release of ChatGPT 4.0?)

Noland Arbaugh can now control a computer with his thoughts thanks to Elon Musk's brain implant from Neuralink. Despite his paralysis, Arbaugh has been able to play computer games and communicate online.
🎣 The list of overfished species in the US has reached an all-time low
94 percent of fish stocks in the USA are no longer subject to overfishing. Key species have been removed from the list of overfished stocks. Thus, there are fewer species on that list than ever before.
🐳 Researchers begin to understand the basics of sperm whale language
Scientists have identified the fundamental components of sperm whale communication. Through the analysis of over 8,700 clips of sperm whale clicks, a complex communication system resembling a phonetic alphabet has been revealed.

The treatment involved a 16-minute operation where she received a functional copy of a gene that is crucial for hearing. The gene has made her hearing almost completely restored. Opal Sandy can now hear sounds as soft as a whisper.
